Pine Forest

Until the Minamihama area underwent rapid urbanization, swamps and damp grounds spread over and pine forests were formed along the coastline. Thanks to Magobei Kawamura, who was commanded to develop a new field by the Sendai clan during the Edo period. It is said that Magobei created Matsubara with pine seeds ordered from Harima Akashi.
The former pine forest became a residential area, and many lives were lost due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. At the Reconstruction Memorial Park that will be built in this area, we will plant trees to deepen ties with the people and to regenerate the beautiful forest, as well as to remember the victims. As part of this activity at Hibarino Matsubara (Pine Forest ), we collect seeds from the Matsubara left in the city, plant the grown seedlings, and revitalize the former Matsubara.
Since 2017, a tree-planting festival with the participation of citizens has been held in the park, including Hibarino Matsubara (Pine Forest ). With the cooperation of many people, we work on forest revitalization.
